Corel Painter Abstract

Corel Painter Abstract

This artwork has been created in Corel Painter, a great piece of software for simulating natural media brushes and papers.  I have been using this software on and off since Painter 4 – back in, wow, 1997? I’ve always loved it, it’s so much fun and can do some really cool stuff.  These days I use it quite a bit for use as textures in 3D/CGI work (i.e. applied to 3d meshes), to produce an abstract look.  While I do use Painter’s oil and other brushes, mostly I use the watercolor brushes, supplemented heavily with the fantastic  watercolor brushes that Skip Allen has very generously made available on his comprehensive Painter site. I’d be lost without these brushes! I also use a lot of CG textures as a foundation for my work – most of my textures come from textures.com and also Joost Vanhoutte’s comprehensive high-res texture packs (great value for money).  Things like old concrete, rocks, dirt, old plaster and so on are wonderfully grungy and organic and make great custom paper textures.
